Our Story
MEET OUR FOUNDER
Francisco Guzmán is a passionate baker and the heart behind the beloved small business that brings the vibrant flavors of Santiago, Chile to life through handmade pastries.
Growing up in the bustling streets of Santiago, Francisco developed a deep connection to the rich culinary traditions of his hometown, learning the art of baking from his grandmother’s tiny kitchen. Her dedication to crafting treats that brought the family together inspired him to pursue a lifelong mission: to share the comforting flavors of Chilean culture within his community.
Specializing in authentic Chilean pastries like empanadas de pino, alfajores, and pan amasado, Francisco creates each treat by hand, using traditional recipes passed down through generations. His baking is not just about food; it’s about storytelling. Every pastry tells a tale of family gatherings, childhood memories, and the vibrant spirit of Chilean culture.
Through his business, Francisco hopes to bring families together over a shared love for simple, heartfelt flavors. Whether it’s a warm bite of pastel de choclo or the delicate sweetness of a brazo de reina, Francisco’s creations are a testament to his belief that food has the power to connect people across miles and generations.

Francisco Guzmán, the founder of Southern Latitudes, is dedicated to preserving the true flavors of his homeland. He embarked on a journey back to his roots in Santiago, Chile, where he immersed himself in the vibrant culinary traditions of his childhood. From the delicious dulce de leche (caramelized milk) used in alfajores to the fragrant spices that season the iconic empanadas de pino, Francisco worked closely with local bakers and artisans to understand the unique qualities of each ingredient. This deep connection to his hometown not only informs his recipes but also ensures that every pastry captures the rich, soulful taste of Chile, bringing a piece of Santiago to every table.
